Ouch! What Causes Back Pain?

When I was younger, every time I hear my mom complaining about having back pain, I always tell her that it's natural as she is getting old. But right now, I cannot say that I am getting old already (hehehe.. :-P) yet occasionally I have back ache. I know sitting in front of the computer for more than 8 hours makes my back ache that sometimes it is hard for me to stand. At the end of the day, it is always my complain of having back pain. Aside from sitting for a long time, there are other causes of back pain.

a. Lifting something heavy and overstretches the back will cause a sprain and strain to the muscles or ligaments in the back.
b. As one ages, the bone strength and muscle elasticity decrease. The discs in between the joints become thin so the cushioning effect also decreases which will cause pain every time there is movement.
c. Poor physical condition and health lifestyles can cause back pain. Obesity, smoking, stress triggers pre-existing pain. Bad posture and sleeping position are also contributors to back pain.
d. People with degenerative illness like arthritis, osteoporosis and other bone diseases are more prone to back pain.

Back pain is a common problem, however, it is important to consult a doctor is the pain is too much to bear or if it persists for long time.

Miss U 2010: Miss Philippines, a Crowd's Favorite Until the Final Question

I was disappointed at Miss Philippines' answer in the final round! Miss Philippines Venus Raj was the crowd's favorite until she answered the final question. Raj was asked by American actor William Baldwin the one biggest mistake that she made in her life and what she did to make it right.

She replied: "You know what, sir, in my 22 years of existence I can say that there's nothing major, major problem that I've done in my life because I'm very confident with my family, with the love that they are giving to me. So thank you so much that I'm here. Thank you, thank you so much!" she said.

Well, she said she was nervous and she was. Congrats!

Miss Universe 2010: Vote For Miss Philippines!

For all people around the world who know, like, love, care one or two or more Filipinos or Filipinas, it's time to show your support! Let's join all our hands (and fingers :-p) and vote for Venus Raj, the candidate of Philippines for the upcoming Miss Universe 2010 which will be held in Las Vegas Nevada on August 23.

To vote for Miss Philippines Venus Raj, click here, then click the stars, [vote with 5, okay :-)]

For my readers who have not known Venus Raj, the winner of Miss Philippines-Universe, all I can say is that she is worth your vote. When she won the Miss Philippines-Universe crown, she was dethroned from her crown just few weeks after due to the reason of inconsistencies in her birth record. However, supporters from around the country protested for her and her title was restored.

Venus Raj was born out of wedlock, and grew in a poor family. She finished her education with the help of  scholarship grants with flying colors. To read more about her life, click here.

A Simple Fruity Treat for my Family: Layered Fruit Delight

This morning I found a small can of fruit cocktail in my food cabinet. I think it was a left over when I made a fruit salad several months ago. I checked on the expiry date and it was good. I immediately knew what to do with this can of fruit cocktail, a layered fruit delight!

Well, it's so easy that it took me only 10 minutes to prepare it. Here are the ingredients you need: a small can of fruit cocktail, 200ml cream, 200ml condensed milk, a pack of crackers.

Now, follow these 10 simple steps:

Step 1: Drain the fruit cocktail from its syrup.

Step 2: Whip the cream till it is thick.
Step 3: Fold the condensed milk into the whipped cream.

Step 4: Mix the fruit cocktail into the cream and milk mixture.

Step 5: In a glass container, arrange the crackers.

Step 6: On top of the crackers, put the half of fruit mixture.

Step 7: On top of the fruit mixture, arrange the second layer of the crackers.

Step 8: Pour the remaining fruit mixture.

Step 9: Cover with cling wrap.

Step 10: Your fruit delight is almost ready, just put it in the fridge for several hours.

Share this with your whole family after dinner and definitely they will love it! ;-) Let me know how you like this :-)

Remembering Hiroshima A-Bomb

Yesterday, when I switched on my TV early in the morning, the grieving faces of the surviving families of the victims of the Hiroshima atomic bombing flashed on my TV monitor as they remember the 65th anniversary of  the U.S. atomic bombing of Hiroshima in 1945 during World War II. I could see from their faces that the wounds are still not healed. As I watched the old people crying and the sad faces of attendees of the memorial ceremony, a big lump on my throat built as I tried not to cry.
